The latest opus in the “Call of Duty” saga, subtitled “Black Ops 6”, was the best-selling video game in the United States in 2024, according to figures from the Circana firm published Thursday.
Overall, the American video game market fell by 1.1% compared to 2023, to stand at $58.7 billion.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops 6”, from American publisher Activision Blizzard, owned by Microsoft, is a shooter set in an alternate post-Cold War reality. It succeeds “Hogwarts Legacy”, an adventure game in the Harry Potter universe, in first place in 2023.
Circana’s figures do not count players who obtained the game via Xbox Game Pass, that is to say Microsoft’s subscription offer which gives access to a catalog of titles and allowed for the first time to try the latest “Call of Duty” as soon as it comes out this year.
-It is followed by “EA Sports College Football 25”, an American college football simulation, which also becomes the best-selling sports game of all time in the United States.
If sales of games and online content are up 2%, to more than $50 billion, console sales fell 25% last year, despite the arrival of the PlayStation 5 Pro, version improved from the Sony machine.
The PS5 remains the best-selling console in the United States in 2024, followed by the Nintendo Switch.
