Windows games on Xiaomi tablets even without internet: the first WinPlay video is incredible!
“Xiaomi tablets can play games,” the company says in its marketing materials, not using a cloud gaming service, but directly on the device and without the need for an Internet connection. The most attentive will remember that at the end of December Xiaomi opened a test phase for owners of Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro 12.4 which allows you to play the best AAA PC titles even on an Android tablet. It wasn’t entirely clear how the platform, called WinPlay, would work, but further details were shared. The Xiaomi HyperOS account has indeed published a post on Weibo containing various interesting information. First of all, as we expected, WinPlay does not work as a cloud gaming service or even streaming games from the PC. It is in fact a virtualization tool directly on the device, which works even without an Internet connection. The three-layer virtualization technology is based on the new Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 launched at the end of October and equipped with the Xiaomi HyperCore platform. According to what has been reported, it is particularly effective: the loss of GPU performance caused by WinPlay only amounts to 2.9% according to Xiaomi. Not only that, but the service also supports the installation of Steam, keeping in mind that this does not mean that all games will be available. In late December, a list of supported titles appeared, including:

Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
Assassins Creed Revelations
Tomb Raider – Game of the year edition
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered
Overcooked 2
Counter-Strike 1.6
Star Craft

In addition, still on Weibo, the famous Digital Chat Station published a video of WinPlay running on its Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro. As you can see, it works incredibly smoothly: just select a game’s executable and it will launch. full time overall acceptable. The leaker showed Need for Speed and Tomb Raider with Xbox controllers as examples, and the games run incredibly well. Unfortunately, at the moment testing is only open in China and a global release is not expected soon, but the work done by Xiaomi is impressive.
