The boss of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, took advantage of the ban on Capcut, developed by the parent company of Tiktok, to announce the arrival of its competitor: an application called Edits.

Instagram wants to take advantage of Tiktok’s setbacks in the United States. The temporary ban on the Chinese social network had an impact on other applications linked to its parent company, Bytedance. Among them is Capcut, which allows you to produce video editing and photo editing. Owned by Bytedance, it was blocked in the United States this Sunday, January 19, the day Instagram unveiled its competitor, Edits.

“Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools to creators,” his boss, Adam Mosseri, said on Threads.

Arrival in in March

According to the Instagram boss, “Edits is more than a video editing application”. It will allow users to record videos on their smartphone with “a much better quality camera”, which Adam Mosseri also used to film the video accompanying his message. They will also have access to editing tools and will be able to “keep track” of all their ideas in a dedicated tab, but also find inspiration in another.

Currently, Edits is only available for pre-order on the Apple App Store. It will also soon be available on Android, assured Adam Mosseri. “In the meantime, we will work with a handful of video creators to get their feedback and improve the experience,” said the Instagram boss. As indicated in the App Store, Edits should be available for download in France on March 13. It remains to be seen whether it will really be able to compete with Capcut.
