In Morlaix, a conference on “the civilization of waste”, January 22, 2025

The Espace des sciences is organizing a conference dedicated to waste, on January 22, 2025, as part of Espace des sciences Wednesdays.

In a press release, the Espace des sciences explains: “Every year, we produce more than 2 billion tonnes of domestic waste, or 70 tonnes per second. Plastic alone now weighs more than all land and sea animals combined. However, we have never had so little contact with our waste. What happens to them once they are removed from our gaze? »

To answer this question, Jérémie Cavé, researcher in territorial ecology at the Institute of Research for Development (IRD). and involved since 2018, in the Political Ecology Workshop (Atecopol), will be present. The conference will reveal the hidden path of waste, from the trash bag to the treatment channels, and deconstruct preconceived ideas about recycling, such as “waste is eliminated” or “sorting is useless”.

A dedication will take place at the end of the conference.
