The Google Pixel 8, the best in recent years
The Google Pixel 8 may not be the brand's latest smartphone, but it is nonetheless, in our eyes, the best of the latest generations. Everything has been improved since the Google Pixel 7 and the Google Pixel 9 has not managed to offer as many innovations, except in terms of AI. Its format is particularly appreciable: 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm for 187g, with a 6.2″ OLED screen which displays 2400 x 1080 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
It runs on the Google Tensor G3 chip, sufficient for playing large 3D games even if there is a bit of heat if it lasts forever. You have a 4575 mAh battery with 30W “fast” charging for all-day battery life. The two 50 and 12 Mpx sensors allow filming in 4K@60 fps.
-A high-end security camera
The other product in this pack is a security camera, the Google Nest Cam, which was still sold for 199 euros when it was released. It allows you to film in 1080p with a field of view of 130° and very good image quality, even if the colors lack vibrancy. If a person passes in front of the sensor, the face is perfectly identifiable up to 6 meters away. And it’s valid day and night, that’s what’s impressive.
This is a wired model, so what you lose in mobility, you gain in unlimited autonomy. The camera has many interesting functions, such as animal/human distinction, recognition of known faces to avoid receiving alerts constantly. On the other hand, sounds are not taken into account in the event of an intrusion, which is a bit of a shame, and you have to pay a subscription to benefit from facial recognition. Otherwise, it's a very good product that fits perfectly into the Google ecosystem.
