The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is imminent, with the next Unpacked event recently confirmed for January 22. While the company has yet to officially reveal anything about the new flagship phones, there have been a ton of leaks about the upcoming devices.
Some of these reports claimed that Samsung would make 12GB of RAM the starting point for the entire Galaxy S25 lineup, which would be a major improvement over the last generation’s 8GB base configuration. Now a new leak suggests there might be another improvement in terms of memory.
This new leak comes from a reputed Korean media outlet, ETNews, and the report states that the entire Galaxy S25 series will be equipped with LPDDR5X RAM. However, Samsung reportedly sources 12nm memory chips from Micron. As lithography has been improved over the 13nm node, these RAM chips should offer better performance and efficiency.
It should be noted that Samsung itself manufactures 12nm RAM chips, but the South Korean giant has reportedly faced thermal issues (Black Shark Fun Cooler 3 Pro, currently $44.99 on Amazon). Samsung reportedly fixed the issue, but in order not to delay the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, the company had to source LPDDR5X RAM chips from Micron.
It is not uncommon to source from third-party entities, but this increases the cost of materials. Speaking of which, the entire Galaxy S25 series is expected to see its price increase. According to recent reports, all upcoming phones could see a 100 Euro increase in Europe and there could be a similar price increase in other regions.
