These are two particularly interesting value for money photo lenses that were announced last month by Samyang. Indeed, in order to end the year 2024 in style, the Korean brand specializing in optical equipment has unveiled two new lenses, the Samyang AF 35MM F1.4 P FE and the Samyang AF 12MM F2 RF-S.

A large aperture 35mm lens

As its name suggests, the Samyang AF 35MM F1.4 P FE is a fixed focal length lens, offering a focal length of 35mm and a maximum aperture of f/1.4. It is designed for Sony E-mount cameras, both full-frame models and APS-C sensors — with a 52.5mm equivalent.

The optic is intended to be particularly light, with a weight of 470 grams, and relatively compact, with a length of 99.2 mm. For comparison, the Sony 35mm f/1.4 weighs 524 grams and has a length of 96mm.

Furthermore, the Samyang AF 35MM F1.4 P FE is equipped with an autofocus system, 12 optical elements divided into 10 groups. It also has a nine-blade diaphragm, a USB-C port for updates and a closest focus to 30 cm – for a maximum magnification of 0.17x.

An autofocus lens for Canon cameras

For its part, the Samyang AF 12MM F2 RF-S is a 12mm fixed focal length autofocus lens intended for Canon APS-C cameras.

Like Sigma and Tamron, Samyang now offers an autofocus lens intended for Canon cameras. However, it remains designed for devices with an APS-C sensor and therefore offers a focal length equivalent to 19.2 mm and an aperture of f/2.

As a reminder, Samyang already offered this same lens for two competing mounts, those from Sony and that from Fujifilm, still in APS-C format.

In detail, the Samyang AF 12MM F2 RF-S is composed of 12 elements divided into 10 groups, including three ED lenses and two aspherical lenses. It weighs 213 grams and will allow focusing as close as 20 cm for a magnification factor of 0.09x.

Price and availability of new Samyang lenses

Samyang’s two new lenses have been available since the end of 2024. The Samyang AF 35MM F1.4 P FE for Sony cameras is priced at 599 euros.

For its part, the Samyang AF 12MM F2 RF-S for Canon cameras is priced at 429 euros.
