It is still at the top after several years on the market
The Sony WH-1000XM4 had a lot to do to successfully succeed the model 3 and above all face strong competition from the Bose Headphones 700. The bet is largely successful since the Sony headset aligns a solid technical sheet on its supports, to begin with by good wearing comfort thanks to the memory foam of the headband. You will still have to wait a few days for this to happen, during which you may feel a little discomfort, but it will quickly fade away.
It is a circum-aural model, which therefore fits around the ear, and not on it: this allows you to have good passive isolation and not feel pressure on the ears. On the headphones, you find touch controls as well as physical buttons to turn on the headphones and toggle between ANC, Transparency modes or turn both off.

One of the strengths of the Sony WH-1000XM4 is its battery management with solid autonomy that can reach 30 hours, even if you use active noise reduction. This option, although known to be energy consuming, does not seem to undermine the capabilities of the headset any more.
Let’s talk about ANC: Sony has made big progress on this since the previous model, by offering 20 levels of adjustment via the mobile app. This is also essential for updating the headset firmware, adjusting the equalizer to your taste and of course the ANC. You can choose to filter out constant noises, voices, but also use the adaptive control option so that the ANC adjusts according to the intensity of the noise.
Without forgetting the quality of the sound and rendering in the ears: it can broadcast frequencies ranging from 20 to 20,000 Hz via Bluetooth with AAC and SBC codecs, and even goes up to 40 kHz via LDAC and wired. Because, and this is another of its particularities, you can connect it wired with a 3.5mm jack socket provided to enjoy the headset even when it runs out of battery. On the other hand, in these cases, the ANC does not work.
