NVIDIA presented in more detail ACE, a new technology that will completely revolutionize gaming and boost player immersion by putting artificial intelligence at the service of non-player characters.
NPCs smarter than ever
Unveiled for the first time in 2023, NVIDIA’s ACE technology has just taken a real leap forward. Present at CES in Las Vegas, the tech giant once again presented this technology which allows “bringing video game characters to life”. To summarize in the simplest way possible, ACE is a series of software based on generative artificial intelligence that offers non-player characters the ability to adopt more human-like behaviors. Once in the game, players will be able to interact with NPCs using text or voice commands and will therefore be able to observe reactions that resemble those of a real human. To illustrate this description, NVIDIA teamed up with various developers who each implemented ACE in their game. And the result is quite astonishing.
The new gaming revolution?
As shown in the X thread available just above, ACE technology is frankly impressive. In these various videos, we see, for example, that NPCs can spontaneously interact with the player and the environment. Non-player characters are able to make autonomous decisions, defend their teammates, collect resources, learn from past experiences, converse with players… not only are the possibilities numerous, but they also appear perfectly functional. ACE could well mark a new milestone for the video game industry by giving developers the ability to craft experiences that are more fluid, organic and immersive than ever before. And as NVIDIA explained, this demonstration is only the beginning. The giant should reveal more later this year. To be continued.
