Microsoft will impose the new Outlook on all users, from February 2025. This information, communicated via the Microsoft 365 Administration Center under the reference MC976059, particularly concerns users of Microsoft 365 applications. The deployment will be done in two time : first with the optional update of January 28, then systematically during the security update of February 11.

The Redmond company specifies that this new version of Outlook will coexist with the classic application without modifying existing configurations or user default settings. The new client will be visible in the Applications section of the Start menu, working alongside the traditional version.

It will be possible to uninstall Outlook on Windows 10

Notably, Microsoft does not offer any option to block the initial installation on Windows 10 devices. However, Users or organizations who do not wish to keep this new version will be able to uninstall it after its deployment.

For system administrators and power users who want to remove the new Outlook client, Microsoft offers a technical solution. It requires the use of PowerShell with the Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage command, accompanied by an edit to the Windows registry to prevent its automatic reinstallation during future updates.

This new version of Outlook, the first preview version of which was launched in May 2022, is part of a broader strategy to modernize Microsoft tools. After being made available for personal accounts in September 2023, it was deployed to professional customers in August 2024.

The Redmond giant therefore seems to want gradually unify its messaging ecosystemalthough this involves automatic installation which might surprise some users. For businesses and users attached to the classic version of Outlook, the ability to uninstall the new client nevertheless offers some flexibility in managing this transition.
