For several months, the residents of Nandalike, an isolated village in India, have been witnessing an unusual influx of tourists. In question: a error on Google Maps which redirects visitors to a small local temple dedicated to the goddess Mookambika, confusing it with the famous Kollur Mookambika temple, located about a hundred kilometers away. If the names of the two temples are similar, the confusion remains problematic.

According to residents and visitors, this error persists despite multiple reports sent to Google. “For the last three months, hundreds of vehicles have ended up in our village because of this error”says a resident of Nandalike. Tourists, often tired after long journeys, find themselves frustrated by this mishap, especially when traveling at night.

A simple problem to fix, but still not resolved

The problem lies in the misidentification of the locations on Google Maps, where the small Nandalike temple is marked as the Kollur Mookambika temple. Although this confusion may seem minimal, it causes inconvenience for tourists and locals. “We traveled from Hyderabad to visit the temple, but we were redirected to Nandalike, which caused big delays”reports Chandan, an impacted visitor.
