Xbox has had a fairly eventful year, punctuated in particular by a change in strategy aimed at offering several of its exclusives on PlayStation consoles. But while many fans of the brand take a dim view of these changes, it seems that the future of Xbox looks brighter than ever thanks to this shift in the company.

The future of Xbox looks bright

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella says the company's fortunes “are about to change,” thanks in part to sales on PlayStation consoles.

If you look at what's happening right now in terms of sales, you look at the PlayStation sales chart for example, you see a lot of Microsoft games there. And the more they can broaden the appeal of their products, their intellectual property to other platform holders, why not do it?

The key to the company's future success, he said, lies in expanding beyond Xbox consoles, including increasing the reach of its games on other platforms. Although console sales are not growing, Xbox is making up for it with game sales, with financial results remaining strong.

You look at their results in their earnings reports and you say, okay, that looks pretty good, even though they acknowledge that console sales themselves are lagging for them. If you look at it that way, the future looks pretty bright, although, yes, the last two years have been difficult.

Piscatella then emphasizes the importance of Game Pass, which he believes is an excellent marketing tool for promoting Xbox titles on other platforms. However, he mentions that the brand's diversification strategy, which no longer focuses exclusively on its flagship service, is a good decision.

While games are becoming more and more expensive and the media has been in crisis for several years now, Xbox's strategy seems to be the most viable for the brand, which can no longer rely on the Xbox player base alone to win. money. Sony could also follow suit since we recently learned that the company's single-player games could be released elsewhere than on PlayStation at launch.

The coming year will be a pivotal year for Xbox which plans to release several big first party games in 2025 while a certain Indiana Jones and The Ancient Circle will be released on PS5 next spring and it is rumored that the exclusives are now of the past for Xbox.
