So many twists and turns in the story of Dead Space… 10 years after the release of its third episode, the license came back from the dead with a remake. Unfortunately, the latter does not seem to have met EA's expectations. Rumors in the corridors indicating a potential remake of the second episode were quickly cut short. But despite all that, some did not despair of seeing the horrific saga ofEA with a brand new episode. On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the license, his dad Glen Schofield even walked EA through a message on his X account: “Looking back, EA supported me and gave me the opportunity to bring this game to life. It would be cool to make a new one.” But obviously, he was rejected.

Very recently, Schofield granted Dan Allen Gaming an interview lasting more than an hour and a half. It must be said that this industry veteran, father of Dead Space but also of The Callisto Protocolalways has lots of things to say. Especially since he wasn't alone. Bret Robbins and Christopher Stone, who both also worked on Dead Spacewere also there. The opportunity for them to talk about a disappointment that happened this year: a pitch for Dead Space 4 refused by EA. The associates indeed presented a draft of a potential fourth episode to the teams ofEAbut the latter were not very enthusiastic about the idea of going back on an adventure in space. “They just said, 'We're not interested right now, we appreciate your commitment, blah blah blah'”explique Schofield, “and we knew who we were talking to, so we didn’t push it any further.”

The possibility of one day seeing a Dead Space 4 showing the tip of its nose seems well and truly dead and buried. It must be said that horror games in space are not popular at the moment. We mentioned it, Dead Space Remake clearly did not have the expected success. Just like The Callisto ProtocolGlen Schofield's first game with the studio he co-founded, Striking Distance Studios. Studio that he left shortly after the game's release in order to “pursue new opportunities.” Schofield says he understands EA's decision, alluding to the game's sales potential. For his part, Christopher Stone deplores the state of the industry which leaves little room for doubts and new attempts: “People are very hesitant about taking risks.” In any case, if the opportunity ends up presenting itself, Glen and Christopher say they are ready to sign for a Dead Space 4. “We have some ideas” Schofield teases to anyone who will listen. We hope, for fans of the license, that his pleas will eventually find a helping ear. For his part, Bret is currently working on another project which seems to excite his colleagues. And we're curious to see what it's all about.
