It’s already been three years since the sixth and final opus of the series FarCry was released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A nice opus, but far from unforgettable with a formula that clearly began to feel the warming. Good news, Ubisoft seems to have understood and is preparing something relatively different for FarCry 7.
Two FarCry games are approaching, with big changes?
It was once again through Insider-Gaming that we learned information a few hours ago about of the next two FarCry games. It seems that Ubisoft is in the process to produce FarCry 7 (under the code name Blackbird) as well as a second game, multiplayer, extraction-based (whose code name is Maverick).
Initially planned for 2025, both titles would have been postponed to 2026 internally following development difficulties. This difficulty concerns in particular changing the graphics enginesince Ubisoft would have abandoned the Dunia engine for the Snowdrop engine.
We also learn that these two new games, and in particular FarCry 7 are going move away from the usual formula which we have found for quite a few episodes.
The project Blackbirdwhich would therefore be the seventh official opus of the saga, and would be a real race against time. The game would offer players the role of a character who must save his family held captive by a conspiratorial sect which has carried out hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. The player would thus have 24 hours in real life (72 hours in the game) to save his family. A watch on the player’s wrist in the game would allow you to see time go by.
Concerning the other game FarCrycodenamed Maverickthe latter would take place in the Alaskan wilderness. This would be a multiplier game that would allow players to fight among themselves, against animals et against bad weather to survive. No further information at this time regarding this project.
In any case, both games would have the right new gameplay mechanics et a new movement system with the addition of tactical sprits, sliding, jumping, etc.
The two projects come from the same game and share similar movement mechanics, with the two games’ similarities blending into each other. Still according to Insider Gaming, the Ubisoft Montreal teams are quite optimistic concerning FarCry 7 « Blackbird ». On the other hand, the doubt is more pronounced on the multiplayer project “Maverick”especially since the company’s recent problems and the cancellation of the multiplayer game XDefiant.
