Having created surprise and excitement upon its release, Helldivers II is undoubtedly one of the major titles of this year 2024. Remember that it is indeed a PlayStation exclusive: if the project was led by Arrowhead Game Studios, an independent Swedish firm (and which should remain so) , Sony is actually the publisher and the game is only available on PlayStation 5 and PC. Moreover, the TPS can still boast of having achieved the best launch of a PlayStation game, beating other big names like God of War Ragnarokto name just one. In short, fifteen million sales later and quite a few prizes won at different ceremonies, Helldivers II continues the adventure with a follow-up which once again proves to be very successful. The latest free update, called Omens of Tyrannyarrived last week and she enjoys bringing back the Illuminates, a new enemy faction that has been teased for months.
In addition, we learned of the existence of a collector’s DualSense controller in the colors of the game, while a brand new Battle Pass called Urban Legends was established. This will allow new weapons such as the incapacitating lance or a flamethrower turret, while a new vehicle will allow players to move much faster while crushing, unfortunately of course, a few aliens.
Obviously, this arc Omens of Tyranny will also like to offer a most enticing collaboration with a PlayStation saga from the old days: Killzone. Started on PlayStation 2 in 2004, the series which built the solid reputation of Guerrilla Games was subsequently offered on PSP and PS3 before ending its run with a final episode, Killzone Shadow Fallreleased in the PS4 line-up. Since then, radio silence and for good reason since the Dutch studio is very busy with Horizonhaving even recently declared that he had finished with Killzone.
If we are not, a priori, ready to review the license despite a fairly insistent request from many PlayStation players, these charming Hellgasts with reddish eyes will be back in Helldivers II. The problem is that this collaboration leaked through a single image and we really don’t know much about it. There should obviously be two skins to unlock (with two weapons?), but it still remains to be seen if Sony will fully pull the string of nostalgia by allowing us to land on the planet Helghan to destroy the old mascots of PlayStation by the hundreds. We must admit that there would be potential, but above all we will try to wait patiently for an official announcement, since we don’t even have a release date to think about at the moment.
