Black Myth: Wukong, the CEO of Game Science surprised by ASTRO BOT's victory at the Game Awards 2024

Black Myth: Wukong will have been one of the sensations of the year 2024l’Action-RPG Souls-like of Game Science was a hit, mainly thanks to the Chinese market who bought it simply to support a local studio. This in no way detracts from the qualities of the title, nominated four times in Game Awards 2024particularly in the category of Game of the Year. Eventually, Black Myth: Wukong walked away with two prizes, that of Best action game and the Player’s Choice. Which is always better than Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Since the ceremony, fans of Black Myth: Wukong are upset, not understanding that ASTRO BOT could have won the prize of GOTH in his place. A feeling of injustice that seems to be shared by Feng Ji, CEO of Game Science who spoke on Weibothe Chinese social network, in order to express his resentment. Feng Ji appreciates it Player’s Choix“which is gratifying”, but he also explains that there are “disappointments, regrets and above all abandonment of illusions”, before adding:

The games shortlisted this year are all excellent, but I really don't understand the selection criteria for this year's Game of the Year. I came for nothing!

A clearly murderous sentence towards ASTRO BOT and Team Asobibut it is difficult to say whether Feng Ji is being humorous or whether the translation from Chinese to French distorts his words. In English, it's the same thing and Eurogamer asked to Game Science details on this declaration, without response at the moment. The head of the development studio also reveals thathe had written a thank you speech two years ago, without having the opportunity to read it. For now, we must rather question the progress of the ceremony of Game Awardswhich gives out certain prizes on the fly between two trailers, not giving all the winners the opportunity to express themselves (the ceremony would last until the early hours in Europe). Black Myth: Wukong received the prize of Best action gamebut the developers did not have the chance to go on stage to make a little speech.

Further away, Feng Ji discusses players' comments on social media, which he takes “in a humorous and deconstructive way”, saying that “these emotions are not hiding pain and malice, but self-esteem and self-confidence”. Visibly, Game Science greatly expected the recognition of Game Awards pour Black Myth: Wukong. Alanah Pearce, former journalist and ex-screenwriter at Santa Monica Studiowas in the front row during the ceremony and claims to have saw a member of Game Science cry with disappointment when ASTRO BOT received the award Game of the Year.

As a reminder, the history of Black Myth: Wukong is probably not finished. According to some rumors, Game Science is reportedly developing an extension, which could be released at the very beginning of next year, but the Chinese studio has not confirmed anything at the moment. If you missed the Souls-like, Black Myth: Wukong is available in physical edition on PS5 from 65.10 on Amazon, Cdiscount et Fnac.
