Should we abandon comments on JudgeHype?

Over the past ten years, many websites have decided to close the space dedicated to visitor comments, or at least to restrict access to it. What is our position on this? Should we close comments on JudgeHype?

The first thing to know is that I have always wanted to offer a tool allowing the JH community to express themselves and react to current events. This forum is a great tool for debating, but also for communicating with the team.

The comments provide many positive elements. Here are five examples, but I could easily double the number:

1. Additional information about news or a guide.
2. Possibility of a real debate between players.
3. Increased reader engagement and reading time, important elements for a media.
4. A way to contact the team to suggest improvements, correct mistakes, etc.
5. The organization of sometimes very stupid competitions ????

There are many good reasons to have a comments area. In the best of all possible worlds, everything would end there.

Unfortunately, we must balance this optimism, because publishing comments requires real work on our part. This starts with the technical part which requires development time to create, maintain and evolve this community space.

Then you have to worry about moderation. This step is also a source of sometimes insoluble problems. It is necessary to find a way to manage spam and monitor discussions to avoid any drift. There are tools to outsource the process, but it comes at a cost. …
