One-piece high-end aluminum Hifi speaker, in an almost compact format

Specializing in very high-end speakers, Magico is one of those manufacturers who, despite real pricing elitism, are far from straying into esoteric excesses. The American brand takes care to choose the most advanced materials possible, whether for the cabinets or the speakers. We were clearly able to praise the quality of this work during our listening to the M7, the second flagship with the M9. A little simpler, the S series is made up of highly technological creations, but more compact and with less crazy pricing. Little sisters of the S3, the new S2 constitute a beautiful illustration of this acoustic art made in Magico.

60 kg premium

Elegant but without artistic bias, the S2 are small floor-standing speakers displaying an ogive profile (finishing towards the rear). These measure only 110.4 cm high, with a weight of 60 kg.

This very good density is explained quite easily: beneath the apparent simplicity of this entirely black and gray model hides a box that is, to say the least, advanced, since it is a single piece, entirely in extruded aluminum. This part is made particularly rigid by the presence of a crossing column, running through the structure over its entire height. For the occasion, the brand's engineers used cutting-edge tools, whether in terms of 3D modeling or vibration analysis (via laser Doppler vibrometer). The base is made of a multi-layer material and fixed on large steel decoupling feet. On the other hand, Magico does not provide any details on the speaker.

Magical S2 01

As is often the case with High-End products, two types of finishes are offered: Softec (soft-touch matte) and High Gloss (glossy/lacquered varnish). The second will, unsurprisingly, be a little more expensive than the first.

High-End Legacy

A sort of simplified Magico S3, the S2 largely takes up its architecture, itself inherited from the manufacturer's spearhead models. Three-way type, the Magico S2 relies on four transducers: a tweeter, a midrange driver and two woofers.
The piece de resistance, the tweeter is a 28mm dome model in pure beryllium coated with diamond (carbon), derived from the one fitted to the M9. This tweeter has a neodymium magnet and a particularly detailed acoustic chamber.

Magical S2 02

For the midrange, Magico opts for a 5-inch (12.7 cm) speaker, composed of a motor with titanium voice coil and double neodymium magnet and an eighth-generation Nano-Tec cone. Very advanced, this membrane has an aluminum core with a honeycomb structure, sandwiched by layers of carbon fibers reinforced with graphene – the assurance of great rigidity and significant lightness.
As for the woofers, these benefit from roughly the same architecture as the midrange transducer, but measure 7 inches in diameter (17.8 cm).
The whole thing is supported by an in-house Linkwitz-Riley type ESXO (Elliptical Symmetry Crossover) filter, capable of attenuating 24 dB/octave. The circuit includes high-end capacitors from Mundorf, as well as MResist Ultra resistors from the same manufacturer.
For specifications, Magico announces a frequency response of 26 Hz – 50 kHz, for a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 86.5 dB (quite low, therefore). The manufacturer recommends an amplifier power of 50 W – 300 W.

Magical S2

The Magico S2 will be available during 2025for prices set at 46 500 euros the pair in Softec finish and 53 500 euros the pair in HIgh Gloss finish.
