Since the release of the first Magic Mouse in 2009, Apple has faced one and the same criticism. The mouse must be flipped over to charge, preventing it from being used while charging. A minor inconvenience, because the charges are not long and infrequent, but the position of this charging port under the “belly” of the mouse has caused a lot of ink to flow.
Over the years, many people have developed solutions, with small 3D printed accessories for example, to continue using the Magic Mouse when it is charging. But according to Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter, the Apple brand is working on a new version of the mouse, putting an end to this charging problem.
The journalist from the Bloomberg news agency explains that Apple would like to build a mouse that “fits better into the modern era” of Apple. With a design dating from 2009, the Magic Mouse indeed deserves a little touch-up, although it has always been praised for its aesthetics.
A Magic Mouse from 2026?
Apple has not accustomed us in recent years to launching a lot of Magic Mouse. The mouse has only had 3 different versions since 2009, and the recent move to USB-C was here to stay over time. But Gurman today assures the opposite. Apple would have planned other Magic Mouse for the future, including a “redesigned” model which would be released in 2026.
Gurman also mentions the possibility of a more “ergonomic” mouse. Apple knows that in this small market of Mac accessories, other companies like Logitech are very popular. The MX Master 3S is particularly a major reference for users of Apple products.
At the moment we don’t know much about this new mouse. Gurman was quite vague in his predictions. The new Magic Mouse should in any case mark a break with the mouse that we have known for 15 years.
