After months of uncertainty, seat manufacturer Recaro, a renowned German supplier of automotive seats, especially for high-performance vehicles, is entering a new era. After filing for bankruptcy protection in July, the company found new life thanks to a strategic investor: the Proma Group, an Italian manufacturer of automobile seats.
According to the Piston Heads website, Proma has signed an investment agreement to take control of Recaro and plans to restart production at the start of next year.
A structured recovery plan
As part of this transition, Proma will retain several employees in the sales and technology departments at Recaro’s headquarters in Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany. The site, which currently employs 215 people, also includes a production plant.
However, part of Recaro’s production will be transferred to the Italian factories of Proma, which operates 26 industrial sites on three continents.
A targeted and limited recovery
The acquisition by Proma will not affect Recaro’s North American and Japanese operations, which will remain intact. In addition, Recaro’s divisions dedicated to airplane, office, video game and baby seats will not be affected by this change of ownership.
“Our investment in Recaro will strengthen our ability to offer premium seating products while adopting the most advanced innovations in the automotive sector. »
– Luca Pino, PDG of Proma Group
A promising future for an iconic brand
Recaro, who has been through some tough times this year, seems well positioned for a return to prominence thanks to Proma. With a renewed focus on innovation and quality, this collaboration promises to maintain Recaro as a leader in high-performance automotive seating.
