VIDEO GAMES. For Michaël Maheux, from the Free Game store in Saint-Georges, the most anticipated game of the last year is not a game strictly speaking, but additional downloadable content, commonly referred to by the acronym DLC, of the game Elden Ring.

“It was eagerly awaited by many players who loved the game released in 2022,” he says. It is important to note for people less familiar with the video game world that DLC requires the base game to play it.

Among other releases, he notes the release of Final Fantasy VII : Rebirthwhich is the second part of three devoted to the remake of the iconic game from the 1990s. “For those in the know, the story takes place after Midgar in the original game. Everything has been adapted to make a game that can take up to 80 hours to complete,” explains Mr. Maheux.

Another remake has recently seen great success. This is the one from the horror game Silent Hill 2. “The game has been remade with a new graphics engine and in third person,” he adds.

A field in transformation

For several years now, the video game market has been moving towards dematerialized content, both for consoles and computers. This forced specialized stores to adapt by moving towards derivative products, whether figurines, plush toys or collectible cards.

The cards also experienced a strong resurgence in popularity during the pandemic and, although the popularity has diminished since then, they remain very popular. “The cards Magic : The Gathering et Pokémon sell very well. Some buy them for collection, but others seek them out for play. We even organize tournaments on Thursdays and Fridays,” he concludes.
