One UI 7 finally brings native call recording to Galaxy phones in the US

Samsung recently launched the One UI 7 public beta program, allowing select Galaxy smartphone owners to test the all-new update before its official release. While the new update is filled with flashy UI overhauls and AI galore, it also brings a nice little feature for those living in the US: a native call recorder.

Samsung has long offered native call recording on Galaxy phones in most regions. However, the company was hesitant to offer it in the United States, mainly because call recording laws vary from state to state. But as spotted SammyGuruthe call recording feature has finally made its way to the US, with the feature currently available on the Galaxy S24 as part of the latest One UI 7 beta.

It’s built into the Phone app by default and must be activated manually every time you want to record a call. When you start recording, the other party hears the following message: “This call is being recorded.” This is a common practice among built-in call recorders, and required by law in some countries. Unfortunately, there is no automatic call recording option, at least for now. But given that Galaxy phones in other regions already have this capability, it’s entirely possible that it will eventually come to US models as well.

Besides built-in call recording, One UI 7 beta also adds an AI-powered call transcription feature, which can automatically transcribe recorded calls in 20 languages, including German, Spanish, French, Russian and Japanese.

These features are not exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series (available at Best Buy) and will come to other Galaxy phones with a wider rollout of One UI 7 over the coming months.
