Local initiative: a more-than-concrete gesture to encourage sustainable tourism

Local initiative: a more-than-concrete gesture to encourage sustainable tourism

Our great initiative of the week, we found it at home, in Quebec: to encourage, concretely!, sustainable activities, and to highlight, really!, local businesses, the Domaine Enchanteur had a not stupid idea of All…

Located in the lost forest of Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel, in the heart of Mauricie, 20 minutes from Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan, Domaine Enchanteur offers, in winter and summer, nature hiking, on foot, by bike, on snowshoes and others.

And it’s in the sale of access tickets that we discover the great idea.

Let’s take a closer look at what the ticket includes:

“Your ticket includes access to agricultural land as well as a local product to taste, in addition to site activities. » it says on the website.

When we dig a little deeper to understand the concept, we discover that the “local product” portion of the purchase is not an option; it is an obligation.

The Domaine describes the concept as follows:

“The enchanting Domaine is located on agricultural land, exploited by the Domaine de la Forêt Perdue and protected as such by the Law on the protection of land and agricultural activities (of which the CPTAQ ensures its application).

“Thus, we are authorized to let our customers walk the trails and enjoy the recreational activities offered, provided that they encourage agricultural production.

“This law makes it possible to regulate agrotourism activities and prevent land intended for agriculture from being used for other purposes. »

A strong gesture

The Domaine continues its explanation:

“So, when you come to the Enchanting Domain, you don’t just come to skate, see the animals or take the aerial course, you make a strong gesture. You contribute to the preservation of bee colonies and, thereby, to the pollination of crops, the very ones that allow you to eat good products from Quebec farms.

“In other words, by purchasing the honey or mealworms produced by the Domaine de la Forêt perdu, which is the company operating this agricultural land, you are encouraging us and to thank you, we are allowing you access to the Domaine. This is why it is not possible to come to the Domaine without purchasing a local product and having it included in the entry price. »

What if this concept caught on in our industry?
