The Nintendo Switch 2 is definitely the worst kept secret in the video game industry. Rumors about the machine have been growing for several years now, so much so that the final stretch before its launch is littered with leaks of all kinds. Last week, the appearance of Switch 2 branded accessories on Chinese sales platforms provided a new glimpse of the long-awaited console. These products correspond to leaks of a 3D model that appeared last September, but is it the real mold of the Switch 2? It is not impossible that manufacturers were inspired by the leaked model to hope to get ahead.
However, it was without counting on the blunder of a company that went a little too far in promoting its new accessory. The manufacturer Satisfye has unfortunately shared a trailer for its new Zengrip 2. This object designed to improve the handling of the console in portable mode is presented directly on the machine, even before Nintendo has formalized its design. The trailer was quickly deleted, but the image in question is already making the rounds on the networks and seems to confirm all the previous leaks.
Why change a winning team?
Unsurprisingly, the Kyoto firm intends to rely on the design of the original Switch which has already proven itself. Now that PC consoles like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally are starting to dominate the market, Nintendo is hoping to win over gamers by offering the best of both worlds. On the surface, the Nintendo Switch 2 seems almost inseparable from the previous console, apart from a few details. As on the 3D model analyzed by Digital Foundry, the console has joycons with larger sticks, as well as a new button present under the “Menu Home” key on the right joycon.
Once again, it could be a dummy console printed in 3D based on the model that appeared in September. But the repetition of this scenario leaves room for doubt. If all these leaks turn out to be real, the Nintendo Switch 2 will therefore be a console similar to the current generation, with proportions closer to machines like the Steam Deck. The latest news is that the console will be almost 30cm wide compared to 24cm for the first Switch.
Nintendo still aims to present its new hardware by the end of the fiscal year, scheduled for next March. However, the broadcast of the Game Awards on the night of December 12 to 13 leaves hope of a revelation before the end of the year. Verdict in a few days.
