A first batch of information relating to the performance of the future Radeon RX 8000, under RDNA 4 architecture, suggests that AMD would still be a generation behind. Nevertheless, the level of performance developed would remain very advantageous… and energy efficiency would be there.
Expected at the start of next year, more or less at the same time as the future Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 “Blackwell”, the new Radeon RX 8000 under RDNA 4 architecture could develop, at lower consumption, performances equivalent to the current generation of Nvidia graphics cards.
In any case, this is what two rather trustworthy sources from the Chiphell forum suggest. They tell us first of all that the future Radeon RX 8800 XT (whose name is not confirmed at this stage) would be equipped with a Navi-48 GPU. And in this case, the latter would be able to develop performances equivalent to those of an RTX 4080, whether in ray tracing or classic rasterization.
Towards better controlled consumption at AMD?
Still according to the same informants, the Radeon RX 8800 XT would manage to display 45% more performance compared to the RX 7900 Resident Evil 4. It would also be able to consume 25% less energy… which would lead us to a TGP of around 270 W.
If this estimate proves correct, AMD would strike hard in the area of energy control, because for comparison, the current Radeon RX 7900 XTX consumes around 360 W, compared to nearly 305 W for the GeForce RTX 4080.
For the rest, the Radeon RX 8800 XT and its Navi-48 GPU would bring together 4,096 cores and up to 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM. We also learn that the Navi-44 chip would be used on future Radeon RX 8600s, as well as on certain mobile versions of the range, this time dedicated to laptop PCs. In total, AMD would immediately be banking on three RDNA 4 desktop models, and their production would be about to begin.
According to several consistent rumors, the firm has in fact planned to start mass production of its new GPUs for mid-December. This niche would indeed be ideal for preparing for marketing in January.
