[UP] A few hours before the release of Marvel Rivals, this is the opportunity for us to highlight our interview on the game. A title that still has a place to make in a competitive scene that is ever more difficult to conquer.

Announced more than a month ago, the first Alpha phase of Marvel Rivals is now complete. A great opportunity for all lovers of competitive games to discover this “Overwatch-Like”. A title that takes place only in multiplayer in arenas with objectives to achieve for both teams. Each side must work as a group to succeed, all in a “Marvelesque” setting. From Spider-Man to Hulk via Iron-Man, we sought out the feelings of Frédéric Boy, aka Torrixpresident of Lausanne-Sport Esports who has had the chance to play the game for several dozen hours already. A subject for which he has a good vision, in a genre that he masters.

1. What are your experiences with the genre (Arena Hero Shooter)?

  • I have thousands of hours on Overwatch of which I was Swiss champion in 2017.

2. Does Marvel Rivals have a place to be made?

  • Yes, very clearly! A very well-made “Paladin-like” like Marvel Rivals really has its place. The Marvel universe is impressive and NetEase has the right to fully exploit it, which allows for some pretty crazy content creation to keep players motivated. They have a pretty incredible level of development with already an integrated tournament mode. Or even the possibility of viewing the replay. A great feat even though it’s only an Alpha!

3. What sets it apart from other titles in the genre?

  • Its quality of development, its iconic characters, its functionalities

4. After this first phase, is the balancing already well adjusted?

  • No, this is the big weak point of the game currently, there are only a few playable characters and others who suffer cruelly from impact. I’m not worried, it’s the goal of an Alpha to calibrate this kind of thing and they have only given 40,000 accesses to date.

5. Do you think Marvel Rivals can exist in the long term (10 years)?

  • 10 years is a very long time so it’s really complex to say, I think that Marvel Rivals can have very good years ahead of it in any case. The Marvel license will offer very interesting longevity! We must also think that a game like this will attract competitive players, but especially the general public who dream of playing Spiderman, Hulk and company in a virtual arena. Given that the quality of development is following, I’m sure that a big fanbase will follow as well. The game is planned for consoles which will allow many “casual games”.

6. Is a Lausanne-Sport Esport team possible on Marvel Rivals?

  • It’s much too early to tell but it’s not completely impossible, we’re always on the lookout for interesting new developments. Kiba, Evetox and I have achieved the feat of climbing into the Alpha TOP 500, that would make us a nice basic trio in the event that the game has significant success.

7. What do you think of Deadlock, Valve’s future leaked game of the same genre?

  • The timing of the leak is catastrophic and the current state of the game seems unpromising. Valve is pretty worrying right now, but I’ll wait and see. The concept of a TPS shooter “MOBA” is interesting and it can make the difference by innovating on a format where we see, for example, XDefiant not standing out from the crowd because it is seen and seen again.
