The history of video games is made up of injustices which are sometimes revealed years later. This is the case for this GTA-like adored by many players. It could have had three sequels. We tell you about it here.

There have been lots of adaptations of The Simpsons and video games, but one is often cited as the best: The Simpsons Hit & Run, a GTA-like released in 2003 on PC, PS2, GameCube and Xbox. It would even be more accurate to speak of “GTA-lite”: even if the title shares points in common with Rockstar's flagship franchise – a certain freedom of movement in an urban environment -, it is above all a question of going 'point A to point B, often on board a vehicle, across 7 levels. Never mind, Hit & Run remains the highest rated Simpsons game on Metacritic to this day.with a rating of 82 on PC. We particularly salute his impeccable respect for the universe. And fans, brace yourself: there could have been not one, not 2, but… 3 sequels.

A whole GTA-style saga?

It's the Gamespot site which brings us the news… Joe McGinn, lead designer of Hit & Run, recently declared that the Radical Entertainment team wanted to develop a sequel at the time. Better yet, the studio had completely free rein to make threewithout having to pay the license fees again (already spent to make the base game). But, as you have understood, that did not happen. The deal nevertheless reached Radical's publisher, Vivendi Games. “Some crazy person in their house said no,” says McGinn. Simpsons Hit & Run reportedly sold 10 million copies.

A future that could have been very different

In the early 2000s, the story of Radical Entertainment will not be written alongside Matt Groening's characters. The studio is doing its part with Crash Bandicoot, giving birth to two new episodes (not the most notable). He also adapts the worlds of Scarface and Hulk into video games. In the 2010s, the company will more or less experience its hour of glory with two parts of Prototype, action-adventure games where the player plays a kind of superhero capable of transforming his limbs into weapons.
