This is a seizure that caused a stir: a traveler was arrested at Los Angeles airport with cow pajamas completely soaked in methamphetamine, and two suitcases filled with clothes impregnated with this drug, American justice announced on Tuesday.

The suspect checked two pieces of luggage bound for Sydney on November 6, according to a Department of Justice statement. Their X-rays triggered suspicion among customs officers, who decided to inspect the suitcases.

Inside, they found more than a dozen items of clothing, including an adult onesie shaped like a cow. They were completely rigid after being dried, and covered with a white powder.

More than a kilo of drugs

Tests revealed the fabrics had been soaked in a solution containing methamphetamine, a powerful illegal stimulant, before being dried. In total, the clothes contained more than a kilo of drugs.

“Drug traffickers continue to invent creative ways to smuggle dangerous narcotics in order to make illicit profits,” said Martin Estrada, federal prosecutor for central California, quoted in the press release.

The suspect, a 31-year-old California resident, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. If tried, he risks between 10 years in prison and life in prison.
