Google Pixel 9 First Hands-On Video Review

Google’s Pixel 9 is set to be unveiled in August, but after leaked images and renders, we’re getting a first hands-on video of the Pixel 9, the most affordable of the range.

Google has brought forward the presentation of its Pixel to 2024. We will discover its new smartphones in August and not in October, as we had become accustomed to. And this year, it is a particularly anticipated range for its completely renewed look and the three models that compose it, against two generally.

And if we were able to discover the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL through various leaks and more or less official renderings, today we take a step further with a first video of one of them.

On X, it’s @hanibioud who shares this short hands-on. We discover a Pixel 9 256 GB in a rather atypical pink finish. Turned in all directions, it lets glimpse its entire design despite the 12 seconds of the video.

Getting closer to an iPhone, with the added pill

In addition to the photo module pill that has been reworked in an oblong shape as we had already seen, we can say that the edges of the Pixel 9 are much more rounded in the corners. These sides are also completely flat, which contrasts with previous generations and brings the Pixel 9 furiously closer to an iPhone 15 or a Galaxy S24.

The other design point that jumps out at you is the back side which sports a glossy glass. This finish is known for catching fingerprints and being easily slippery. On the other hand, the rear photo module and the outline of the phone are matte.

Usually, visual leaks of the Pixel come from Vietnam, the country where they are produced. However, as we saw with the Google Pixel 8a a few months ago, North Africa manages to get its hands on units before Google’s presentations.

But as for today’s Pixel 9, we don’t see it turned on at any point. So it’s hard to judge whether it’s a dummy or a working unit. @hanibioud assures that he will publish more visuals tomorrow.

The Pixel 9 will be unveiled on August 13 alongside the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL and the new Google Pixel Watch 3.
