After a failure in the matrix last week, resulting in a Playstation 5 sold in greater numbers than the Nintendo Switch in Japan, this week marks a return to the natural order of things: the hybrid console is back at the top of sales. However, we recall that the PS5 Pro was released last week, which explained this sudden jump. But the hype train quickly died down: while the PS5 Pro sold 78,086 copies last week, it fell to 13,878 for this new week. Sony's state-of-the-art console therefore reached 91,664 copies sold in the space of two weeks.
In terms of game sales, the release of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake attracted all the attention this week. Combining physical sales on Switch and PS5, the title sold 821,770 copies in the space of a week. The Switch is the main console targeted by this tidal wave, with numbers reaching 641,195 just on the platform. It's the biggest launch in Japan since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom (1,119,502 copies the week of its launch, all the same), and the biggest Square Enix launch for a while… Dragon Quest XI, with 2,080,806 sales in one week. If you needed more proof to see the aura of the series Dragon Quest in Japan, it is there, before your eyes.
The ranking is then completed with the eternal Animal Crossing New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Minecraft, while Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of The Seven manages to stay in good shape, with almost 100,000 copies sold on Switch since its launch ago a few weeks. As for Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario & Luigi: The Brotherhood Epic, they are already starting to reach a cruising speed over the period (32,762 sales for the first, 15,168 for the second).
