The latest Windows 11 update, Build 26100.2448, is now available in the Release Preview channel of the Insider program. Proposed through update KB5046740, this version of 24H2 brings new features and a series of fixes aimed at improving the user experience.
These changes are split between a phased rollout, targeting a subset of users, and a general rollout for the entire channel.
Features in progressive testing phase
The update introduces adjustments to the interface and functionality. Now, when you right-click an app pinned to the Start menu, a list of shortcuts appears if that app supports them. Additionally, the system tray can display a simplified version of the date and time, while the notification icon can disappear if “Do not disturb” mode is activated, with simplified management of these settings via the context menu.
As for touch screens, a new section dedicated to on-board gestures is available in the settings. The update improves dark mode support in dialog boxes and optimizes the system performance display by including details about disk types. For users of Chinese or Japanese character IME keyboards, the toolbar now automatically hides in full screen mode.
File Explorer also includes rich sharing options, allowing you to send content to Android devices configured with Phone Link. On the security front, Windows Search strengthens its protection by running IFilters in restricted environments (LPAC), reducing the risks associated with compromised processes.
This update continues to improve accessibility with additions to Narrator’s swipe mode, making complex content easier to navigate with specific controls. Speech recognition and synthesis are also optimized, with the need to update some language files via the Microsoft Store.
On the personalization side, users of dynamic lighting systems benefit from new effects for compatible devices.
