Sony could put its PS VR2 headset away for good

It smells like a tree for the PlayStation VR2. According to information from the Android Central site, Sony has drastically reduced its investments in the field of virtual reality video games. It could therefore put its virtual reality headset exclusive to the PlayStation 5, released in 2023, on the shelf. “There will be very few opportunities for VR game development at Sony in the future,” reports the specialist site. It indicates that only two games are being developed for the device. The latter may never see the light of day, given the situation in the video game industry, which is facing layoffs and studio closures, estimates Android Central.

Last month, Sony announced that an adapter for the PS VR2 would be released at the beginning of August, making the headset compatible with PC computers. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the tech giant has temporarily halted production of PS VR2. Some two million copies have been sold since its release. Note that two games, “Skydance’s Behemoth” and “Alien: Rogue Incursion,” were presented during PlayStation’s latest State of Play event, but these two titles are not PS VR2 exclusives. They are in fact also compatible with Meta Quest and SteamVR devices.
