WhileHalf-Life 2 celebrates its 20th anniversary, a group of fans supported by Nvidia is working on a remastered version of the cult FPS. The trailer is really inspiring.
Half-Life 2 will celebrate its 20th anniversary on November 16, 2024. For many players, it is a true monument of video games, more specifically within the FPS (first-person shooter) genre. Some fans still have immense worship for this title designed by Valve, as evidenced by this project led by modders and artists supported by Nvidia. Their goal? Remaster Half-Life 2 so that it looks more beautiful than ever.
On November 14, in order to get a little head start on the anniversary, Nvidia published a tribute video which also provides an update on this project made official in 2023. We see members of Orbifold Studios sharing their passion for Half-Life 2 and tell how he is trying to make an RTX version of the game, that is to say with ray tracing and the introduction of DLSS 3.5 technology for reconstitution of the image in better definition. The result is quite stunning.
Half-Life 2 is unrecognizable with today's technologies
No need to specify that the RTX version of Half-Life 2boosted by the advances of Nvidia and pampered by the work of enthusiasts, is unrecognizable. Ray tracing, which allows the behavior of light to be simulated more realistically, is capable of completely changing the atmosphere of a scene. Orbifold Studios also works to improve textures or even reproduce certain 3D models with a more current rendering. We are therefore talking about a real remastering, and not just a filter to look pretty. The images speak for themselves anyway.

Half-Life 2 RTX
Please note that the people who work on this Half-Life 2 RTX are not their first project related to Valve's FPS. Some have, for example, participated in the creation of other mods, such as Half-Life 2 VR For example. They are supported here by Nvidia, which provides a modding tool allowing you to easily and quickly add ray tracing to old games. This is not the first time that an illustrious production has benefited from it, in the wake of Quake 2. On the other hand, Orbifold Studios does not intend to modify the original gameplay, only the form is concerned.
Half-Life 2 RTX today has a Steam page, proof that Valve endorses its existence (without participating in its production) and will not prevent its launch. It is even considered a “ Free DLC » pour Half-Life 2knowing that a release date has not been communicated at the moment. To go faster, Orbifold Studios is not against the arrival of reinforcement and interested artists can submit their application to this address.
