A critical security flaw affects all versions of Windows. It allows a hacker to infect and control your PC remotely, simply using Wi-Fi and without you realizing it.

A particularly worrying security problem is currently affecting PCs running Windows, all versions combined. More precisely, this flaw concerns devices equipped with a Wi-Fi card or adapter, i.e. all laptops or mini-PCs currently in circulation. Apparently simple to exploit, the breach would allow a hacker to remotely inject malware onto their target’s computer, without the target even making a mistake or noticing it.

Identified under number CVE-2024-30078, the flaw is located in the Windows Wi-Fi driver – the software that manages Wi-Fi communication in the operating system. According to the CVSS standardized vulnerability assessment system, it is rated 8.8 out of 10, representing a very high level of threat and severity. And for good reason: it is very simple to exploit and can cause considerable damage to the computer.

As reported by Forbes magazine, this breach allows an attacker to directly send data to a computer located within radio signal range. In other words, an attacker can execute malicious code remotely, simply by being near their target. And to make matters worse, implementing the attack does not even require any action on the part of the victim; thus, even the most vigilant users are exposed.

Fortunately, according to the official technical note on the CVE-2024-30078 vulnerability, there is currently no evidence that this flaw is actively and massively exploited by hackers. Above all, Microsoft has just closed this critical flaw in the latest set of patches for Windows released since June 11 – the famous Patch Tuesday distributed each month.

To take advantage of it, simply download and install the latest Windows update available for your PC via Windows Update, by going to the Windows settings. The update number depends on the version of Windows installed on your computer, but it doesn’t matter: given the severity of the problem and the dangers involved, it is strongly recommended to update Windows immediately, especially if you regularly use your PC in public places, such as bars, train stations or hotels. Don’t wait, because hackers will exploit this serious security flaw very soon!
