After a first half marred by uninteresting game announcements and the closure of studios popular with the public, the “X” brand had to make an impression, but in a positive way this time. An ultimately successful bet, the secrets of which we reveal to you in our dedicated column!

Xbox is not dead

If Xbox has always held conferences, this year’s was particularly exceptional. Indeed, no less than 30 games were presented, with gameplay and various in-game extracts. Among them, 17 titles from first party studios and 18 planned day one in Game Pass. Phil Spencer – CEO of Xbox – even stood in front of the logos of Activision, Blizzard and Bethesda, declaring that these companies, all owned by Microsoftmake their best games to date”. A statement quickly confirmed by the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, equipped for the occasion with an in-game trailer suggesting the return of spectacular single-player campaigns with refreshing gameplay.

An announcement followed by those of Doom: The Dark Ages and its brutal medieval universe, as well as Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the series and presented in a breathtaking in-engine trailer. Fable has also been further revealed via new images, as has Perfect Dark announced at the end of 2020 and offering a clever mix between gadgets, combat and parkour à la Mirror’s Edge. Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, for its part, has finally convinced fans by showing that he has fully assimilated the codes of the saga, when Age of Mythology: Retold pleased aficionados of management/strategy games (4X). Other titles also had their moment of glory, whether it was Flight Simulator, State of Decay 3 or even the Starfield expansion – Shattered Space – planned for later this year. In a poll launched by Geoff Keighley, viewers gave the Xbox Games Showcase conference top marks, proof of its impact.

When there is no more, there is still more!

While all the players were already blown away by the presentation, this one is all the more dizzying as Xbox is far from having shown everything! In fact, various titles remained discreet during the event, such as Contraband, the cooperative heist game, or Everwild, the action-adventure title from Rare, going under the radar for a long time. No news either from OD, the horror exclusive designed by Hideo Kojima, or from Project: MARA from Ninja Theory. Nothing about The Outer Worlds 2, ARA History Untold, TowerBorne or even on the game Blade, yet revealed at the Game Awards.

No information has also been revealed on Replaced, developed by Sad Cat Studios and yet playable in Los Angeles. Halo and Forza Horizon have also been forgotten, despite the pleas of fans, as has Clockwork Revolution revealed a year ago. The absence of The Elder Scrolls 6 was also felt, especially when we know the scope of the series. Xbox still has a good number of cartridges and is definitely ready to make those who bury it too quickly swallow their words.
