The 21st installment of the “Call of Duty” war video game franchise has just been released. Highly anticipated by fans of multiplayer games, this “Black Ops 6” also offers a mini scripted campaign, to be experienced alone. For this edition, the game completely reviews its formula. From now on, we learn to speak before shooting.
1991, Iraq invades Kuwait. The US government launches Operation Desert Storm. The story as we know it ends here. Welcome to fiction. In the new opus “Black Ops 62”, players take on the role of CIA agents on an exfiltration mission at the border. Obviously, the operation does not go as planned and even ends with all the agency’s colleagues on their heels. A plot orchestrated by the Pantheon, a paramilitary organization which aims to discredit the CIA in order to take control of it.
First we talk…then we shoot
Condemned to operate in the shadows, the agent and his team are plunged into a series of missions which first involve intelligence and infiltration. Whether at a meeting of the young governor Bill Clinton or in a casino, trying to reach the room of the big players, “Black Ops 6” encourages you to think before drawing your hand.
The headquarters has also been redesigned, and you will have to activate your gray matter to uncover its many secrets. No more scripted corridors, and enemies in single file. “Black Ops 6” introduces a less frenetic pace, with different choices to complete each mission.

For example, the player can decide to place a charge of C4 on a helicopter or opt for a more subtle option, by sabotaging its fuel. We can also convince a deceived woman to lead us to her husband, or find another guest, also linked to the target.
This freedom of choice brings a breath of fresh air and rare replayability for a campaign mode. Especially since all these interactions offer multiple choice answers that require memory. Let the faithful rest assured, the escalation of detonations still awaits the players at the end of the chapter. “Black Ops 6” remains in the “great spectacle” category, through epic moments which remind us that we are indeed in a blockbuster made in the USA.
New things, but not too much
“Black Ops 6” also introduces an omnidirectional movement system, allowing the player to run in all directions without losing speed. Same thing for sliding or the ability to throw yourself to the ground after a sprint. This welcome innovation reinforces the impression of being at the heart of an action film, and brings new dynamism to multiplayer games.
Despite its qualities, this new Call of Duty is still aimed at those who appreciate the multiplayer mode or the cooperation of zombies mode. For fans of single-player action, packed in 6 to 7 hours, we will regret that this campaign is not sold separately.
