Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu: Ready for country mass!

The parish of Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu is organizing a country mass on Sunday, November 10. A way to make the celebration more joyful and popular.

Put on your hat and plaid shirt, don’t forget the cowboy boots, and clap your hands! On Sunday, the parish of Saint-Mathias is organizing one of its two annual country celebrations.

“We do it once in the fall and once in the spring. The objective is to have a more lively church, underlines Francine Loiselle, who initiated this project. We have been organizing it for 25 years, because we think it should be interesting for families. »

For this Sunday, the parish team is expecting a larger crowd than usual. “This interests young people as well as older people,” continues Francine Loiselle. The public comes from all over the region. Moreover, we advise those interested to arrive thirty minutes before the celebration, because a show will be presented! »

It will be the singer Carl Gauthier who will perform in the church, to the great enthusiasm of the organizer. “He will offer songs with his guitar and harmonica. Some songs lend themselves very well to the country rhythm, like One day at a time, by André Breton. It helps us appreciate the present moment and thank the Lord for it. We will also perform famous songs. »

Celebration and meal

During a country mass, the celebration is intended to be pious, of course, but the atmosphere goes up a notch at certain moments. “The songs are the same and remain respectful of the liturgy of the mass,” smiles Francine Loiselle. We don’t fall into exaggeration, but the music is more rhythmic and the atmosphere is more festive. Even the priest will have a hat, which he will remove during the celebration. »

Country mass, Sunday, November 10 at 11 a.m., at the Saint-Mathias church, 280, chemin des Patriotes, Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu. FREE ENTRANCE.

A lasagna dinner will follow the celebration at the Pauline Casavant Hall, 99, rue Lussier. It is recommended to make a reservation at 450 658-1671. Admission: $20 for adults, $10 for children.
