Realme is one of the first manufacturers to send review units of its new Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphone to reviewers. The company prepared them so early that the boxes of the evaluation units mistakenly mentioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which was the expected name of the new SoC.

Nonetheless, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Realme GT 7 Pro has the potential to offer a notable performance jump over the last generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, according to early stress tests conducted by Android Authority and Digital Trends, the SoC is overheating.

Android Authority notes that the phone can’t even complete initial GPU stress tests due to overheating issues. However, the outlet notes that this issue could be due to Realme’s benchmark optimization settings, something companies do to get their phones to score high in synthetic benchmarks.

When the Realme GT 7 Pro was tested with a disguised version of the benchmark app, it completed the test without any issues. Digital Trends encountered a similar issue, but noted that there was “only a hint of increased heat” when the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite was used to play games. Asphalt Legends Unite for 30 minutes.

Additionally, the phone performed well in other tests, suggesting that it’s only in stress tests that the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite struggles. But again, as noted by Android Authority, the overheating issue in stress tests is most likely due to Realme’s benchmark optimization settings, which can easily be fixed with a software update, and the other phones with the same SoC may not have the same problem.
