Financial Aid for Studies (AFE), remuneration for internships and food insecurity on campus are at the heart of the concerns of college and university students.

On November 1, the Quebec College Student Federation (FECQ) and the General Association of Students of Cégep de Baie-Comeau (AGEECBC) held a press conference on student financial insecurity.

We must update the financial aid program and pay internships adequately, the students claim.

“How can we accept that today 84% of our interns are still not paid for their work? Deficit budget or not [à l’Assemblée nationale]no one saw fit to invest in our youth,” says Antoine Dervieux, president of the FECQ.

“This, we are also asking for work to update financial aid for studies,” he continues.

Finally, food banks are increasingly frequented by students, relates Cassandre Lévesque, president of the AGEECBC.

“Here, in Baie-Comeau, like everywhere else, we have problems with food insecurity. “It’s a problem in CEGEPs and universities,” she says.

One in five young people will go to a food bank, explains Antoine Dervieux.

The press conference, which was held in Baie-Comeau, is part of a national campaign “Let’s reverse the weight of precariousness”, which brings together more than 200,000 students across Quebec.

It is nothing more and nothing less than a collective cry from the heart which aims to reverse the weight of precariousness which weighs heavily on the shoulders of the student population.
