Apple renews its iMac with the M4 chip and a welcome option

Apple’s iMac 24 is entitled to its renewal this year after a version in Apple Silicon M3. The all-in-one computer from the Apple brand benefits from the M4 chip and some welcome new features.

A more powerful M4 chip

The unmissable new feature of the iMac 2024 is obviously its M4 chip inaugurated with the iPad Pro in May. Apple announces this chip as being 1.7 times faster in office and 2.1 times faster in creation and games than the iMac M1 released in 2021.

The M4 chip is also well supported since by default the iMac now has 16 GB of unified memory, a first on a Mac. On the other hand, in terms of storage, you will have to make do with only 256 GB of SSD on the basic versions. A capacity that is reduced to say the least, especially in 2024.

For USB-C ports, the cheapest model with an M4 composed of 8 processor cores and 8 GPU cores is still limited to two Thunderbolt ports, while the model with M4 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores has for its part 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Wireless connectivity, however, is unchanged with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 7 is therefore not included for the 2024 iMac.

An optional nano-textured screen

The 24-inch 4.5K panel retains its definition of 4480 x 2520 pixels. However, people operating in a bright environment will be delighted to learn of the possibility of opting for a nano-textured finish to reduce reflections. An option that Apple charges a high price since you will have to opt for the model at 1749 euros and add 230 euros to benefit from the nano-textured coating.

Another new feature, the webcam now benefits from a 12 megapixel wide sensor. A real leap forward since the iMac 2023 only has a Full HD sensor.

The iMac 2024 will be available from November 8 in 7 new colors. The price of the most affordable model starts at 1499 euros with an M4 (8 CPU cores / 8 GPU cores), 16 GB of unified memory and 256 GB of storage. To benefit from an M4 (10 CPU cores / 10 GPU cores) and four Thunderbolt 4 ports, you will have to pay 1749 euros.
