The general public doesn’t care about artificial intelligence, and that’s a problem for smartphone makers

Artificial intelligence is also not one of the reasons cited for renewing a smartphone. Only 18% of people surveyed said that the integration of AI could motivate them to choose a smartphone equipped with it.

Consumers have much more concrete needs to encourage them to replace their phone. The first criterion mentioned is greater autonomy, with 61% of respondents, then more storage (46%) and better photo capabilities (38%). In addition, 44% of those surveyed say they renew their smartphone once it is broken or obsolete. Renewal cycles continue to increase, with consumers keeping their smartphones for three or four years, and AI does not seem likely to change this trend.

Latest information which still does not go in the direction of the industry: only 9% of respondents say they are ready to pay for a subscription to an artificial intelligence service, and 40% do not want to invest a cent in this technology. Users are already subscribed to many services, particularly video streaming, and do not want to increase their budget a little further. If Google or Apple hope to make money from their artificial intelligence activities, they would be wise to wait a few more years.
