London-based manufacturer Nothing wants to put ChatGPT in everyone’s ears and what better way to achieve this than by integrating bot support into all its headphones and audio products! Initially inaugurated in April on the Nothing Ear and Ear (a) models, this functionality is now accessible on the Ear (1), Ear (stick), Ear (2), as well as on products in the CMF by Nothing range, at the image of CMF Buds, CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds Pro. This update is delivered via the Nothing mobile app: once the new version is installed, it allows users to “pinch to talk” to ChatGPT.

Nothing accelerates on ChatGPT integration

The deployment of this update was carried out earlier than expected, which shows Nothing’s determination (or eagerness?) to quickly deliver new features to its customers. Now, users of Nothing audio products can benefit from ChatGPT capabilities directly from their Nothing phone, such as the Nothing Phone (2) and Nothing Phone (2a).

This ChatGPT integration allows the capabilities of artificial intelligence to be harnessed through a simple press of the earbud stems. In addition to voice interaction, users can access ChatGPT through built-in widgets on their Nothing phones, where they will be able to use text, their voice and even search images.

According to the first testers, the integration is rather effective, regardless of the environment in which the function is used. Using ChatGPT via the Nothing headphones should provide a good user experience, similar to what “classic” assistants like Siri or Google Assistant can offer – but with the bonus of OpenAI AI.

A major constraint remains: the function is only available to Nothing phone users. So, those who own Nothing headphones without a phone from the same brand will not be able to take advantage of this new capability. This strategy may help sell more Nothing phones; In any case, it is an attempt on the part of the manufacturer to strengthen the adoption of its complete ecosystem of products.

Nothing very intelligently rode the hype around ChatGPT and OpenAI’s AI technologies. The company is thus positioning itself as a pioneer in the integration of AI into audio devices. While current bot support doesn’t yet support the natural conversations offered by the latest version of the GPT-4o language model, it stands to reason that Nothing should definitely look into it.
