Marshall Emberton II at the best price?

Class in a mini format

Despite its compact format, the Marshall Emberton II does honor to the brand by using the square design with the layer of black leather and the gold elements characteristic of the British manufacturer. And this second generation takes a big step in the right direction compared to its big sister with IP67 certification. Enough to take it without fear with you by the pool, or even in the shower for the most music lovers. Note that you will have to wait for the fabric to dry completely for the high frequencies to pass through again.

Although very beautiful, we would not have been against adding a carabiner or a wrist strap. This would undoubtedly have detracted from the style of the device, but would have enhanced its transportability. Fortunately, the Marshall Emberton II eliminates this weak point with a decent battery life of 21 hours with the volume at 50% – a little less than the 30 hours announced by the brand. However, you will have to wait three hours to reach full charge.

Stylish, but out of breath

As for the audio part – the central aspect for a speaker – Marshall chose to equip the Emberton II with two small 4 cm wideband transducers, each accompanied by a passive radiator. To improve their performance at high frequencies, these transducers are equipped with a double neodymium magnet, making it possible to do without a tweeter. Promising specifications, but which, unfortunately, do not allow the Emberton II to shine. The performance of this small speaker remains limited. It actually has difficulty reproducing low frequencies.

However, it does well on the highs and mids, offering appreciable smoothness and linearity. Overall, the Marshall Emberton II benefits from good tonal balance, but lacks character due to its physical constraints. It is therefore only partly suitable for outdoor use. In addition, the depth of the soundstage is non-existent and the dynamics are disappointing, giving the impression of a uniform rendering. Finally, it has a few additional flaws: absence of microphones and equalizer limited to three presets. Flaws that fade when its price drops sharply.
