ChatGPT becomes an application on Windows: available today, but pay attention to your plan
ChatGPT takes another step towards full integration. After arriving as an application on Android, iOS and macOS, the new application for Windows is also officially available today, having just landed on the Microsoft Store. Be careful though, because for now this is only the Early version, which not everyone can try yet. The Windows ChatGPT app works very similar to the browser interface. On the left is a large chat window, in which you can write commands and read the AI’s responses. On the right are the different tabs with the saved GPTs and previously created chats. New chats open in a separate window, which, among other things, always remains above all other open windows on the desktop. We don’t know if this is a bug or a feature, but at the moment it doesn’t seem possible to adjust this behavior. By clicking the blue button at the top right of the main interface, you can access the application and service settings, to adjust various ChatGPT settings. Some features seen on smartphone apps and in the browser interface are still missing, such as advanced voice mode. This is the only real limitation of the app, which otherwise functions very similarly to other apps and interfaces on mobile devices.

To download the ChatGPT app on your Windows system, simply go to the dedicated Microsoft Store page and click the “Download” button. Similarly, you can open the Microsoft Store app on Windows and search for “ChatGPT” in the top bar. The application is free to download, but to use the first version you will need to have a paid plan between Plus, Team, Enterprise and Edu. If you are using ChatGPT in the free version, you currently cannot access the app. This limitation will likely be eliminated in the coming months, when the application leaves this first preview phase and is released in the final version. However, there is no official timing announced by OpenAI, so we will have to see as the weeks go by.
