As you can see, the bug in question concerns the reappearance of deleted photos on iPhones. But how is this possible? In reality, when you delete a photo from your iPhone, it is not immediately erased from the device’s storage. It is first moved to a special album called Recently deletedwhere it remains stored for 40 days before being permanently deleted.

The bug discussed here occurred after updating to iOS 17.5.

For an as yet unknown reason, some deleted photos were put back into the user’s photo library, as if they had never been deleted. An annoying bug to say the least, which has raised many questions about Apple’s management of personal data.

iOS 17.5.1, the update that fixes the bug

To put an end to this bug, Apple has released a new software update: iOS 17.5.1. According to the release notes, this update “ fixes an issue where some deleted photos could reappear on iPhone “.

Concretely, the patch implemented by Apple seems to repair the database management mechanisms, in order to guarantee that the records of deletions from the photo library are accurate. In other words, updating ensures that deleted photos never return to the user’s photo library.

The update is already available on iPhone. To download it, go to the “Settings” application on your iPhone, then click on “General” and “Software Update”.
