Amazon’s new Kindles are almost official, and there’s a change

Ah, the meatball. Which means (approximately) “Ah, the dumpling“, in Spanish. Indeed, the version of the official Amazon site in this language seems to have spilled the beans a little early regarding the new Kindle e-readers. No other language is offered at the moment, while the links to purchase still come across 404 errors. Never mind, the article is complete and allows you to know everything about the members of the 2024 edition family.

Color, performance and all budgets

First comes the very first Amazon Kindle to offer a color screen. The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition will thus be useful for displaying images, covers or highlighted text other than in black and white. On sale from October 30 at $280 (prices in euros remain to be known), it is waterproof, wireless charging compatible, can last eight weeks and offers automatic brightness adjustment. Amazon also promises color rendering like a book or more vibrant in two modes, with the possibility of zooming without pixelation.

Then place the new Kindle Scribe. Designed both for reading and for writing on it with its stylus equipped with a new eraser, the e-reader wants to give the impression of being a sheet of paper. This includes new white corners around its 300 ppi screen. Amazon is also adding Active Canvas, a tool for adding dynamic notes to a book, while it will soon be possible to write notes in the side panel. AI is also present to, for example, summarize pages. Come on December 4, and it will cost $400.

An imminent launch for the new Kindle

More reasonable, the new Kindle Paperwhite is also the “Fastest Kindle“. Wider (7 inches), thinner and more durable (three months) than the previous model, it is water resistant and has 16 GB of storage. The e-reader is supposed to be available now at $160. A Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, priced at $200, upgrades to 32 GB of storage, adds wireless charging and automatic brightness adjustment. Three colors are offered: Raspberry Metallic, Jade Green Metallic and Charcoal.

Finally, a new entry-level Kindle completes the 2024 family. Compatible like the models just mentioned with increased speed for turning pages, it is offered in a new matcha color. Priced at $110, it weighs only 158 grams and offers a 330 ppi screen with a brightness equal to that of the Paperwhite. 16 GB of storage is integrated.

Note also that new versions of the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhites for children, branded Kids, are also there with new covers.
