Mixpow, cans instead of bags for dried fruits, more practical and more eco-friendly too

In the Eco this Friday we received Jonathan Bernard, creator of the company Mixpow located in Saint-Aunès (34). He has just created a new method of packaging for almonds, hazelnuts and other dried bananas very popular for healthy and balanced snacks.

Today these dried fruits are sold in bags which have many disadvantages: the bag which opens in the bag, the fruits which do not retain all their flavor once the bag is opened, and bags which are too large with a lot of air inside.

It was during a trip to Canada that this 28-year-old young man had the idea of creating new packaging to sell these snacks. “I had a can of soda in my hand, and I thought we could probably do the same thing for dried fruit. I am a big consumer myself. Back in , he begins a market study “I saw that it was already being done in the United States or the United Arab Emirates, companies which had won numerous awards, I said to myself that it could work in France” Jonathan Bernard had already created at the end of his studies (Digital Campus in ) a company on the market place “My French purchase” intended for the development of made in France.

Thus the can was born, initially the commercial name was Mister Nuts, but the name was rejected by the INPI due to an appeal from the Nestlé group. Mixpow was finally chosen, mix for the mixture of dried fruit and pow for the fruit that the can makes when you open it.
The principle is a bit the same as the Pringles brand of chips, the chips have been well stored in a resealable cardboard box.

This can has many advantages: packaging plus compact (without air void, without loss of space), better preservation of taste (it is resealable), it is easy to carryand more ecological because it is made of aluminum (and not plastic like many snack bags) infinitely recyclable “As Europe moves towards strict regulations against plastic, we are a pioneer, ready to lead by example with a sustainable and responsible solution”

Two can formats

Today there are two can formats, 33cl, which corresponds to approximately 180 grams of dried fruit for 3.80 euros and the XL format with 44 cl of products, 4.60 euros or 250 to 260 grams. Prices consistent with what you find on the market in classic bags.
Mixpow has created several different ranges: the office snack, the one after sport, the afternoon snack and the one for hiking or even the one for an aperitif

The cans come from and the dried fruits from the assembly takes place in Baillargues. They have been found since September at Intermarché, Super U, Carrefour on Amazon and on the Mixpow website. “We are now looking for the Leclerc and Monoprix markets”

Today Mixpow they are 5 employees : the founder, two salespeople, a community manager and a person for logistics. “We are very optimistic because our product corresponds to a real need, but it is innovative and people are not yet used to this method of presentation, so we have to show ourselves and explain”

Cans can be found in many supermarkets.
