WhatsApp refreshes its interface: what has changed

WhatsApp has formalized the new interface of its mobile application, the brushstroke being more pronounced on Android. The redesign will not shake up habits (too much), after all there is no question of doing anything, when you have 2 billion users!

Fresh news on WhatsApp. Meta messaging has refreshed the interface of its mobile application, on both iOS and Android. On iPhone, the changes are modest, the app having changed some time ago. The main new feature concerns the top bar, which now contains filters leading to unread conversations and group chats. It is especially on the Android side that the dust removal is most significant.

Setback for WhatsApp

Exit the green bar above the list of conversations: the app simply displays a green logo on a white background, and switches the tools that were at the top to a new menu bar at the bottom, like on iOS. These different icons will also be easier to reach with the hand holding the smartphone.

On both operating systems, the panel for sharing photos, videos and other information no longer takes up the entire screen, it is now in a retractable drawer. WhatsApp has also homogenized the green palette, which is not as obvious as it seems. “ We considered over 35 different color variations, ultimately aligning with WhatsApp’s iconic green and choosing a palette that allowed for harmonious color combinations throughout the app “, explains Idit Yaniv, design boss at WhatsApp.

The new application also presents more “neutral colors”: in other words, the prominent green gives way to white. Or black in dark mode! WhatsApp has in fact reinforced the contrast in order to reduce pressure on the eyes in dimly lit environments.

The icons have also been redesigned in a rounder style; the illustrations and animations are also intended to be more fun. Another big change: the default wallpaper in discussions! Each of the scribbled objects has been closely examined and retouched to simplify them. Of course, it is still possible to change the background completely.
