Adjustments planned for ranked mode with LoL segment, details Since the launch of the 2024 season in January, Riot Games has sought to improve the ranking system to better reflect the true level of players in the MOBA. Temporary software has been managing the calculation of the MMR for several months, which has also contributed to reducing the phenomenon of negative PL.

The developer noted a 37% decrease in “negative LP gains, which are currently 3% and close to 0 in most tiers.” Although the first few placement matches were somewhat chaotic, the situation improved over time. Players eventually accepted harsher demotions, allowing everyone to reach a rank more suited to their level.

Logically, Riot Games plans to maintain this dynamic, while making some changes: players will now be able to reach the Diamond III level at the end of the placement games (previously, they could rank up to the Emerald I level).

Protection against relegation between divisions (eg: Silver II to Silver III) will be removed. Players will move between divisions more fluidly. Players who will be demoted from one tier to the other will receive at the time of downgrading 25/50/75 PL based on their MMR, in relation to their rank. The duo ranked queue will now be available for Master tier in most regions (but will not be available for Grand Master tier).

To further improve the quality of each game, other adjustments will be made: correction of a case where Iron IV players were placed in Iron II, correction of negative PL gains affecting Diamond I players, reduced LP gains/losses from 28 LP to 25 LP below the Emerald tier to reduce inflation, adjustment of the handling of special cases concerning demotions (some players were not demoted correctly).

The case of new players

Newly ranked players stopped being placed directly in Platinum (if they played normal games). Implementation of downgrades to 50 PL to reduce inflation, reduced the time spent in queue by 40% for players below the Silver tier, and made team ranks more homogeneous by 40% in games below Silver.

Adjusted how players who play ARAM, against AI, and normal matches are initially ranked when they start in ranked mode (on average they are ranked in Silver IV, but they can be ranked as low as Iron IV and as high as Gold III). About a dozen other bug fixes, tweaks and adjustments.

The goal of these maneuvers is to ensure that each player begins the segment at the level best representing their level. Gold, these actions go hand in hand with an active fight against cheating, started some time ago with the requirement to install Vanguard software. High-profile players reselling accounts are in the crosshairs, protecting legitimate players.
