Not so long ago, knowing how to crop out and remove the background from a photo was a bit like witchcraft. But not anymore !
With MS Paint
Yes, believe it or not, but the graphics software that for a long time was the butt of so many jokes because it was so limited in its capabilities has improved a lot. It has recently acquired new features which tend to bring it closer to other graphics editing software (even if we are still far from it).
And among the new features, a very practical feature: AI background removal. To do this, go to Paint, open the image you are interested in, and press the symbol at the bottom immediately to the right of “selection”, on the far left of the screen.
Small note however: while Paint is quite good at detecting the background and removing it, there may be some hiccups. Sometimes, for example, you have to crop the image a little to make the software understand what you want.
On the Windows “Photo” application
If you have a Windows computer, then there is a fairly simple way to remove a background, and one that allows you to touch up the image a bit before doing so, unlike MS Paint.
Go to the Photo application, and select the photo that interests you. Click the editing tool (a photo icon with a pencil). An editing window will open, and this will allow you to delete the background by pressing the rightmost icon of those present immediately above the image.
Once clicked on it, the software will show you the area which is considered as highlighted background. You can activate the “Background Brush Tool” to touch up any errors.
Finally, select one of the three options available to you: a blurred background, a transparent background, or a background replaced by a solid color.
Once satisfied, press “Apply”.
On the Internet
There are several websites that allow you to remove backgrounds. The best known is undoubtedly RemoveBG, where you simply upload your image before letting the magic happen. It is also possible to use the “magic brush” by clicking on the “erase/restore” option to correct potential errors before clicking “download”.
